Here's an overview on pool care in general with step-by-step
guidelines.
PROBLEM: Black Algae
ANALYSIS:
Black algae is a blue-green filamentous algae that grows on rough surfaces
of concrete and plaster pools. It usually appears as black slippery
spots on the pool wall. If not checked, it grows into a dense black
mat. The most common cause of black algae is a low free available chlorine
level, which may be due to heavy rains, high bather loads or poor pool
maintenance.
SOLUTION: Pool Time Algicide Plus
- Check the pH and adjust (if necessary) to 7.2-7.6.
- Vigorously brush away any visible algae.
- Vacuum pool surfaces and backwash to remove as much debris as possible.
- Following label directions, add Pool Time Algicide Plus (for all
pool types).
- Allow Algicide to work overnight. Then brush and vacuum pool surfaces.
Backwash the filter to remove accumulations of dead algae and debris.
- For major infestations, a second treatment may be needed.
- Return to normal maintenance with Pool Time sanitizers, shock products
and balancers.
- As an algae preventative, add Pool Time Algicide Plus or Non-Foaming
60% Algicide per label directions for preventative maintenance.
