Here's an overview on pool care in general with step-by-step
guidelines.
PROBLEM: Mustard Algae
ANALYSIS:
Orange, yellow or mustard-colored spots on the water and pool surfaces
are mustard algae. These small, single-celled plants cling loosely to
pool walls. They can be brushed off easily but soon return.
Mustard algae are resistant to chlorine and quaternary ammonium compounds
commonly used in Algicides. A specially formulated Algicide is often
needed to eliminate this persistent problem. Mustard algae may also
create a high chlorine demand.
SOLUTION: Pool Time Algicide Plus
- Check the pH and adjust (if necessary) to 7.2-7.6.
- Following label directions, add Pool Time Algicide Plus.
- Allow algicide to work overnight. Then brush and vacuum pool surfaces.
Backwash the filter to remove accumulations of dead algae and debris.
- For major infestations, a second treatment may be needed.
- Return to normal maintenance with Pool Time sanitizers, shock products
and balancers.
- As an algae preventative, add Pool Time Algicide Plus or Non-Foaming
60% Algicide per label directions for preventative maintenance
(For detailed product information, go to Algicides.)
